Ciao ragazzi,

here are some photos of a great chase I had on Friday, starting in SE Lombardia at the time of storm initiation and then continue following those impressive supercells into Veneto region. Expected initiation round 13-14z in Lombardia and got there in time.

Storm initiation south of Mantova...

Soon an insane supercell formed...

Few minutes later...
http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk3.jpg

A bit further NE...

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk10.jpg

Brief funnel cloud for about 20s...
http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk11.jpg

Later in western Veneto... the same supercell...

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk15.jpg

Another funnel cloud under the wall...
http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk14.jpg

Then a new supercell formed to the west... with massive wall cloud...
http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk18.jpg

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk20.jpg

Both supercells with wall clouds at the same time!
http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk17.jpg

Then another funnel formed...
http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk21.jpg

Though not sure what was this thing... it was rotating and trying to reach the ground... it came from the funnel above..
http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk23.jpg

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk24.jpg

This first supercell then had an insanely impressive beaver's tail... just to worship that one!
http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk25.jpg

I left this one and dropped to the new one...
http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk31.jpg

A bit later...

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk34.jpg

I was then continuing towards Padova... soon wall cloud was going crazy and funnel was observed... the same as many other were seen from there when it then drag onto the Colli Euganei later... if not a tornado, thats at least massive funnel close to the ground. It was rotating rapidly!
http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk39.jpg

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk41.jpg

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk45.jpg

Then going more towards Padova via highway...
http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk47.jpg

When I soon got blasted by hail... hell it happened 4th time on this chase... I rather stopped before getting destroyed...
http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk50.jpg

I just observed the monster going into Venice lagoon... nice wall cloud hanging there still...
http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk51.jpg

And then... when sun finally came out... colors were incredible... as well as majestic structure...
http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk52.jpg

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk54.jpg

Its convection was simply too explosive... towers were going up like crazy... one have to love 2000+ CAPE!
http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk57.jpg http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk59.jpg

Soon I was also able to see a nice overshooting top...
http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk61.jpg

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk64.jpg

Surprisedly... another overshooting top formed later... two at the same time!
http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/17_07_2009mk67.jpg

The day was over... I wasn't even bother catching it as it was going close to the sea and no way I could catch it, also highway was blocked due to an accident south of Padova. But structure was relly amazing at sunset...

Here are more photos from this chase: http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=274

And here is also a time-lapse video of rotating wall clouds... and later on this evening explosive convection... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQ__X7M0PyU

Well... 695km .pro:::) But who counts the kilometers, if you get such a payback with tornadic supercells? I wouldn't care a lot ;10) Such chase pays the rest, so its simple :smoke
And the first 5 photos... the first one near Mantova... then the next one were taken near Sanguinetto and then that monster mothership mesocyclone near Cerea. You can see this link, where you can also read the location of each photo: http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/t ... ?album=274 (http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=274)

Perhaps your best reportage ! Wonderful, magnificent, sumptuous..., almost incredible.
Some photos are like a rotating clouds lesson…, but this pair of images are your masterpiece:
