Ok guys here we go... this was just an amazing day and successful trip towards E Veneto where some massive supercells were expected in insane conditions Left home at 1pm with my girlfriend and a friend of mine, targeting eastern Veneto. .pro:::)

I was already driving from Palmanova towards Venezia when storms were near Treviso and the first tornado occured. I arrived to San Dona di Piave and turned north directly towards the complex sups... there was massive monster on the right and healthy looking flanking line behind it...

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk1.jpg

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk2.jpg

It was obvious this supercell must have a monster mesocyclone, radar presentations were just incredible. We then continued closer to this baby and when we arrived neat Oderzo... mesocyclone was just crazy, rapidly rotating with massive wall cloud hanging beneath it.

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk3.jpg

It was soon clear that prediced storm motion was absolutely insane and true, system was speeding fast. As soon as we arrived there, a funnel cloud was extending from the wall, SE-erly inflow surface winds were blasting 60-80km/h into... notice the tilted trees towards the storm.

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk4.jpg

The whole structure of this mesocyclone was really impressive, so classic striated structure with all features there... notice also very low inflow clouds coming from the right in the back.

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk7.jpg

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk6.jpg

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk9.jpg

As it was incredibly fast, we had to leave soon, so we used a road closer to it going NE-wards and near Mansué we were already on the front side of the wall cloud which was dragging almost on the ground. I am not sure if there was any touchdowns in this area, certainly it was damnly close!

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk13.jpg

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk11.jpg

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk12.jpg

But as soon as this happened, I noticed the monster is trying to cycle and wall cloud was dissipating fast in the next minutes, we raced NE but totally crazy road network and traffic made it impossible to stay with this storm anymore. It was simply too fast and we couldn't come ahead of it. I was targeting road east of Pordenone as it was clear on the radar, that cycle should be completed just near Pordenone and we would be in the perfect position on the road Pordenone-Codroipo to stay on the front side of the new mesocyclone. But no, unfortunatelly we lost it. I just hated it, as we know what happened later just ENE of Pordenone... a tornado raced trough!

Anyways, we say goodbye to this one and and give it a go. We noticed new cells rapidly developing to our SW, so we dropped there... we first intercepted a weak LP supercell near Cinto Caomaggiore and I took only this poor photo just before it evaporated. But one can still clearly see an updraft base with tilted structure here. Another cell was already coming in the back.

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk14.jpg

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk15.jpg

A new cell was rapidly coming behind this one and it didn't take long, we were just close to it. An impressive LP supercells with classic textbook look...tilted rotating updraft in strongly sheared environment with well-defined mesocyclone beneath it, just wow!

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk17.jpg

Another cell was coming in the row from the west and it looked with more precipitation, we came ahead of it just a bit west of Motta di Livenza where we manage to see its structure. Impossible to come closer with terrible road network and with such speed, we would lost it in a minute.

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk20.jpg

Closer look to the wall cloud and another shot just before it dissapeared...

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk21.jpg

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk22.jpg

There was nothing too impressive coming from the west and I also noticed storms are trying to cluster a bit. Likely due to more W-erly flow expected near 16-17z, surprisedly it was coming in time. A little system of these storms then got outflow dominated and we decided to follow it. We had a highway close to us, so we just blasted NE to get ahead of it, it was clear it was going to be close to Udine in 30min or so. Meanwhile driving towards Palmanova, I took a nice looking roll cloud forming ahead of this system...

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk23.jpg

But then, when we arrived close to Udine-sud exit, the structure of this storm was just WOW! Still nice roll cloud ahead of the storm, but massive shelf and storm's structure in the back. Still nice near 40km/h surface winds into the storm to maintain it. Colors contrasts were pretty crazy and structure came out perfect!

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk25.jpg

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk28.jpg

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk27.jpg

We soon noticed a mesocyclone with lowering on the right and inflow clouds were starting to become visible atttached with the weak wall cloud.

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk29.jpg

It didn't last a minute and there was funnel coming down, very well visible on these two shots... but it wasn't lasting for long, it dissipated soon as storm was coming close to the mountainous terrain there.

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk30.jpg

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk31.jpg

We then enjoyed the spectacularity of the whole structure, pretty impressive color contrasts and I was waiting for the sunset if sun rays can become visible, as the angle was the best for great colors.

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk32.jpg

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk33.jpg

And there it comes, a bit more light and contrasts improved... simply majestic view!

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk37.jpg

We then continued towards north just to make a few shots of new towers poping up north of Udine. We were just lucky to see beautiful crepuscular rays behind the Cu towers...

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk38.jpg

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk39.jpg

When we arrived back, an outflow boundary from those previous storms near Udine was laying just a bit south of Udine and few more cells poped up along this convergence. Given the such shear as it was in place, we soon noticed another mini supercell forming... radar was confirming it. I wish we'd have an option to go west earlier, as it was looking good.

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk41.jpg

So we just turned west on the Udine-sud exit and then dropped south towards Palmanova. Nothing too spectacular anymore, but cell was looking nice at sunset...

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk42.jpg

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk43.jpg

We stopped for awhile near Bicinicco, pretty good place with open field around, new cells were poping up to our north.

http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/06_06_2009mk44.jpg

When we arrived to Gorizia, widespread coverage of storms started over western Slovenia with heavy downpours at times, I just managed to shoot these two lightning strikes from inside the car.

I was on the highway sunday afternoon around 6.30 may be..I have just passed Portogruaro when i was in the middle of a terrible hail storm.. I wrote about it in another thread...it was terrible and incredible..all the cars stopped in the middle of the highway because it was impossible to see the street, the rain rate was extremely high...it was so dangerous for all this cars stopped and mine was stopped to..thanks God nobady was driving too fast in that moment...I think i was just in the center of the cell :ciauz1

Absolutely I have tons of photos of this supercell! I will post photos tomorrow evening probably, but you will see what a MONSTER was the wall cloud under that storm... I was coming to Portogruaro in the last minute before it was hit with incredible rainfalls, I saw that from distance! :oooh I hope there was not big hail in it, so no serious damage was done. Did you have any hail?

anyway... you will see the photos... another amazing supercell... the mesocyclone structure was absolutely spectacular! :inchino

si è proprio ciò di cui parlo io...solo non riesco a vedere le foto perchè mon registrato..
@SLO: the hail was everywhere i was crying for my car...we cant get off the car in the highway especially because i was stopped in the left lane to take same hail.. after i stopped the car..5 minutes later I saw the sun and a cleavage's line between the cluod's in paritcular the border of the cell, so i put the first gear and I moved the car for 500 meters..it was unbeliveable...the street was completely dry, no rain and no hail...and I was out of the hell....in the thread that Ramandoloman mentioned they said that the hail's misure was around 4 - 5 cm and unfortunately there a was a car crash to...
